Christmas Message from Director of Education

Dear Waterloo Catholic Community,

As we approach the conclusion of the Advent season, we wait in joyful anticipation for the celebration of Jesus’ birth. I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude and share some reflections with our Catholic school community.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated educators and staff. Your unwavering commitment to our students’ well-being and academic growth has been nothing short of remarkable. Your hard work and resilience have ensured a successful start to the school year, and for that, I am very grateful.

With the Christmas break about to begin, I offer my warmest wishes to our students, their families, our staff and the entire Waterloo Catholic Community. May this holiday season be filled with the warmth of family and the spirit of giving. Let us remember, it is through acts of love and kindness that we truly embody the teachings of our faith.

This is also a time for reflection and a time to think of those in need. Thank you to all who have been involved in charitable work within the WCDSB community. Your support is greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind those in our community and throughout the world for whom Christmas is a difficult time. We continue to pray for peace in our world.

As we bid farewell to 2023 and look forward to the year ahead, I am eager to welcome you all back to our schools, where our students will continue to learn, grow and flourish. Together, we will embark on new adventures and inspire young minds to reach their full potential.

In closing, I wish you and your loved ones a truly blessed Christmas break and a holiday season filled with love, laughter and cherished memories. May your hearts be touched by the joy and wonder of this special time of year.

Sincerely,
Tyrone Dowling
Director of Education

Thank You Team Canada’s Senior Women’s Hockey

This past Tuesday, the Women’s, and Men’s Hockey teams from each of our Secondary schools along with 350 students from St. Anne’s school in Kitchener, were provided with the opportunity to observe Team Canada’s Senior Women’s Hockey team’s, open practice as they prepared for an important game at The Aud.  This game was part of the Rivalry Series which highlights the best female hockey players within Canada and the United States of America and is being hosted across North America over a series of four months.  Loren Gabel, a current member of this team, is one of our own as a former student at St. Mary’s and St. Anne’s (K).

What a wonder it was to watch many of our younger students who had never seen live hockey before find joy and enthusiasm in our Nation’s national winter sport.  Equally impressive was watching our Secondary hockey team members, who have plenty of knowledge about the game, sit and watch intently with incredible focus for two hours as they learned new things.  It was impressive and a great day all around.

St. Mary’s Students Shine on CBC’s Sounds of the Season

This morning, our Student Council Co-Chairs, Cornelia Manda and Eva Stewart, had the incredible opportunity to share the impactful charitable initiatives happening at St. Mary’s on CBC’s annual Sounds of the Season segment.

CBC Morning

During their interview, Cornelia and Eva highlighted the inspiring work our students are leading, including food drives and efforts to combat homelessness. Their presence on CBC showcased not only our school spirit but also the embodiment of our Catholic teachings in action.

We are proud of the positive contributions our students are making to the community, and we wanted to share this exciting news with our St. Mary’s family. Thank you for your continued support in fostering a spirit of generosity and compassion among our students.
