First Nations, Metis and Inuit Program
“As disciples of Christ, we educate and nurture hope in all learners to realize their full potential to transform God’s world”
The Ministry of Education has identified Aboriginal education as one of its key priorities with two primary challenges; to improve student achievement among First Nation, Metis and Inuit students and to close the gap between Aboriginal and Non Aboriginal students in the areas of literacy and numeracy, retention of students in school, graduation rates and advancement to post secondary studies.
The Waterloo Catholic District School Board is committed to improving achievement for First Nations, Metis and Inuit students. Effective the 2011-2012 school year, self-identification has been collected on the Waterloo Catholic District School Board student update form and continues to be collected through the student verification form, the self identification post card as well as through oral permission with administrative staff.
Our mission of “As disciples of Christ, we educate and nurture hope in all learners to realize their full potential to transform God’s world” guides the work to be done for future generations of First Nations, Metis and Inuit learners as well as for all our students.
