Temporary Custodian

Background:

The WCDSB maintains a pool of Temporary (Casual) Custodians who are called to replace permanent custodians who are absent from work.  A Temporary Custodian will work approximately 20 to 40 hours per week Monday to Friday.   Temporary Custodians are not assigned to one specific location and can be asked to work anywhere within Waterloo Region which includes Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Ayr, St. Clement, Maryhill, New Hamburg and Elmira, St. Agatha.  A temporary custodian position could lead to a permanent custodian position with the Board.

 

Responsibilities:

General Housekeeping Duties

  • Dusting and sanitizing surfaces
  • Wet and dry mopping
  • Polishing and scrubbing floors, operating auto scrubbers and buffers
  • Stripping and re-finishing floor surfaces
  • Garbage and recycle collection and removal (inside and outside)
  • Snow removal, salting and sanding as required for safety
  • Operation of equipment such as snow blowers, floor buffers, auto scrubbers, and vacuum cleaners.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of the building and grounds in all respects.
  • Perform related duties as required for the daily operations of the site.
  • Assist with arranging physical set up for site rentals, in-school dances and activities
  • Maintenance of Logs and Files.
  • Follow assigned cleaning schedules to maintain expected standards of cleanliness.
  • Follow Board practices, procedures in relation to attendance, health and safety.
  • Co-operates with colleagues, staff and students to assist in creating positive working relationships.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school (grade 12) diploma or GED – (Must provide proof of qualifications)
  • Previous commercial/industrial cleaning experience preferred
  • Basic computer knowledge (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Able to communicate effectively
  • Good attendance record.
  • Must be physically capable to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • The Successful Candidate will be required to produce a satisfactory Criminal Background Check.

 

Salary: $19.47 per hour plus shift premium

Service Quality System (SQS) – Facilities Operations Supervisor

 

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Facility Services.  As an SQS Facility Operations Supervisor, you will work within a supervisory team managing custodial staff providing a safe and clean learning environment for all students, staff and school communities.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for executing the Service Quality System plan by providing the highest level of Service Quality in support of student learning
  • Assist in the hiring of new custodians including recruitment, interview and selection
  • Staffing of daily custodial absences and ensuring communications and paperwork is completed
  • Supervision of custodial staff in your assigned area, site inspections, performance evaluations, coaching and assessment recommendations. Work collaboratively with Administrators and Human Resource Services where necessary in disciplinary and grievance processes
  • Develop, monitor and revise school cleaning schedules
  • Develop and execute professional development for custodial staff including SQS protocols and training programs
  • Work collaboratively with Human Resource Services to develop modified and return to work plans. Monitor employee to ensure plans are being followed
  • Meet with external contractors and suppliers to review contract expectations and discuss any concerns that may arise
  • Assist the Senior Manager of Facility Services in the development and ongoing monitoring of custodial budgets.
  • Purchase cleaning supplies and equipment for custodial staff
  • Assist the Senior Manager of Facility Services in establishing priorities for the Board 3 Year Renewal plan
  • Ensure that excellent customer service is provided by responding to inquiries as a team within 48 hours or less
  • Work the afternoon shift (beginning at 3 pm) a minimum of 3 days/month on an identified schedule to ensure supervision is provided to afternoon custodial staff.
  • Must be available for 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis among supervisor staff*.
  • Complete any duties as assigned by Senior Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience within a facility services team; preference will be given to individuals who have worked in an educational, multi-site and unionized setting, have SQS background and training and have training in management development courses
  • Community College certificate/diploma in business, management development, construction or facility management, or equivalent experience with concentration in building maintenance with supervisory duties
  • Basic computer competency – proficient in the use of computers and software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), eBase
  • Demonstrate knowledge of custodial cleaning procedures and best practices
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of building systems, operations and components as well as building construction
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable provincial regulations
  • Possess outstanding leadership, problem solving, interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Possess a valid drivers’ licence and use of a reliable personal vehicle is required

 

Salary Level At: PASS Level 6, $70,327 pursuant to the PASS Terms of Employment

This position requires flexibility in scheduling part time hours.  The individual in this position will report to the Supervisory Officer responsible for Special Education.

 

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Work cooperatively with the Principal of Student Services and to coordinate strategic planning, policy and budget development, supervision, staff development and school support for the Special Education Department
  • Utilize data to appropriately allocate resources
  • Supervision and allocation of Special Education support staff
  • Provide assignments for Itinerant Support staff
  • Coordinate annual training plans for educational assistants and child & youth care workers
  • Work closely with Human Resources related to recruitment, training, staff assignments and labour relations
  • Assist with negotiations
  • Liaise with community agencies and associated related to special education

Qualifications:

Experiences and Qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • A Graduate degree in a field related to programs and services for people with special needs (education,psychology, social work, speech and language, nursing)
  • A related professional designation and at least five (5) years of relevant administrative experience
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g,. Education, Occupational Health), policies, and procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of funding, policy development, employee relations, budgeting, and staff development/training related to special education is essential
  • Possess superior interpersonal, communication, reporting and presentation skills

General Description of Duties:

As a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) you will  be available for daily occasional, long term  and permanent assignments. The responsibilities of the position include collaborating with the classroom teacher to plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten program within a classroom setting and/or taking the lead in implementing age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the Extended Day Program.

 

The RECE will deliver faith-based Early Learning Programs in an environment that enhances children’s cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development.

 

Minimum Job Requirements to be considered for daily occasional, long term occasional  and permanent assignments:

  • Roman Catholic Baptismal Certificate; (Please note: in order to be considered for permanent assignments, a Catholic Pastoral Reference form is also required)
  • A complete Declaration of Commitment
  • A two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma with experience in a childcare or educational setting;
  • Member in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full day early learning kindergarten program;
  • Experience in planning and implementing age appropriate programs;
  • Knowledge of related legislation and pertinent Board policies and directives such as, but not limited to Administration of Medication and/or Special Services

Desirable Assets:

Responsibilities for Both Core and Extended day program:

  • Partner with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten and Extended Day Program(s) through developmentally appropriate curriculum-based activities;
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to support individual student’s  identified needs, strengths, interests and stages of development;
  • Observe, monitor and assess the development of pupils in Kindergarten and/or Extended Day Program;
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and special education teacher to carry out specialized activities to support learning for children requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP);
  • Collaborate with extended day team to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the Extended Day Program expectations;
  • Maintain a healthy, physical, emotional and social learning context for students;
  • Provide a variety of experiences to strengthen pro-social skills such as sharing, problem solving and  cooperation;
  • Provide guidance in washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities;
  • Maintain appropriate records for students (e.g. health, attendance, etc.) respecting confidentiality and adhering to all privacy legislation;
  • Collaborate and maintain set-up of classroom (e.g. display, organization of materials etc.);
  • Where applicable, attend staff meetings, appropriate school-level meetings and professional development activities;
  • Perform related administrative functions as required such as attendance and billing in the extended day program
  • Complete any duties as assigned by principal or ECE Supervisor .

 

 

Additional Responsibilities for Extended day program:

  • Provide supervision and age appropriate programming for children aged 4 to 12 years;
  • Perform related administrative functions as required;
  • Communicate with parents and school staff as appropriate;
  • Facilitate nutrition breaks;
  • Complete other related duties as assigned by the principal or ECE Supervisor .

 

Rate of Pay for Daily Occasional Supply: $21.12 per hour

Rate of Pay (Grid) for Permanent & Long Term in an Assignment 40 consecutive days or more:

$21.12 – $27.61 per hour

Schedule and Hours of Work:

Full-time positions:     7 hours/day plus ½ to 1 hour per day unpaid lunch

Part time positions:    3.5 hours/day             

 

Schedules will vary from school to school and will range from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

RECEs are normally called for assignments that range from a start at 8 am to those that end at 6:00 pm.

Long Term assignments may include schedules that commence at 7:00 am to 2:30 pm or 10:30 am to 6:00 pm.

POSITION SUMMARY

  • Under the direction of the ITS Data Systems Supervisor, the Client Support Officer provides training, analysis, and administrative support to student administration system users. The specialist will act as a liaison between the application software vendor and all users.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides assistance to the ITS Data Systems Supervisor in the planning, coordination and implementation of student administration system in the school environment.
  • Responsible for the training, documentation, and support to all users of the student administration system.
  • Investigates, identifies and resolves technical problems in the student administration systems software by possessing an ability to analyze problems quickly and recommend an immediate solution to problems such as why the software does not work.
  • Analyses and interprets all new system updates and memos from the application vendor.
  • Liaisons with the application vendor on behalf of users on technical problems to ensure prompt resolution to all software and hardware problems.
  • Implements, on a timely basis, all new system updates to assure that the latest software versions are used correctly.
  • Reviews systems for refinements and improvements to assure ongoing user satisfaction.
  • Responsible for the collection, coordination, and submission of student data for Ministry OnSIS and Board information management and reporting purposes.
  • Prepares agendas and chairs student administration system user meetings.
  • To remain current and be knowledgeable in new database technologies, user training and support practices.
  • Coordinate, planning meetings and training Secondary School Data Administrator (SSDA) roles.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A three-year college diploma or equivalent coupled with three years demonstrable experience in providing user support and training to database application users.
  • Demonstrated experience and an in-depth working knowledge and understanding of the following: Microsoft Office; Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Access; database and Trillium Student Information System and Trillium Web Modules.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to set priorities and to work with minimal supervision.
  • A valid driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle.

 

Salary Range:

PASS Level 4 61,428 – $72,267 per year, in accordance with the PASS Terms of Employment.

Hours of Work: Permanent full time: 35 hours per week / 52 weeks per year
