Lenten Drive at St. Augustine!

This year, St. Augustine had a Lenten Initiative that focused on collecting items for McMaster Children’s Hospital. Currently, there are 100 children who are receiving care at the hospital, and with the leadership of Mrs. Theresa Runions and several Student Council reps, we were able to collect about 600 items and $100 in gift cards. These items were used to add extra joy to the lives of the children and families currently in their care.  Items we collected:

  • Non-toxic markers
  • Pencil crayons
  • Crayons
  • Colouring books
  • Play-Doh
  • Kinetic Sand
  • Fisher Price Little People
  • Princess/Super Hero Figures
  • Hot Wheels Cars
  • Sketchbooks
  • Picture Books
  • Young Adult Chapter Books
  • Board Games
  • Small Lego Sets/Packages
  • Puzzles (wooden and/or large pieces)
  • Imagination/dramatic play toys (ex. Play food, kitchen play sets, animals, dinosaurs)
  • Craft Kits (non-toxic)
  • Dolls/Barbies
  • Infant rattles
  • Train Sets
  • Teen Activity Books (ex., Sudoku, crosswords, etc.)

A special shout-out to Mr. Joe DaSilva (custodian), who drove all the items down to Hamilton.  It was a beautiful way for our students and their families to practice almsgiving during the Lenten season.  Thank you to every family who donated.

St. Augustine Students Honour the Life of Pope Francis

Students and staff at St. Augustine Catholic School gathered for a moving liturgy and procession in remembrance of our Holy Father, Pope Francis. Led by pastoral lead and planning time teacher Ryan Barr, the school came together in prayer and reflection. The tribute included a solemn procession, student-led prayers and reflections, and a moment of silence marked by 12 bell tolls — one for each year of his papacy. It was a meaningful expression of our shared Catholic faith and community.

Holy Door at St. Augustine

The St. Augustine Storm are proud to have the replica of the Holy Door at our school—a powerful symbol of faith, renewal, and the journey toward Christ. 🚪🙏 This sacred reminder invites us all to reflect, grow, and walk together in faith.

This has been a truly wonderful opportunity for our students to experience Christ’s presence in a meaningful way, deepening their connection to the Jubilee and our global family of faith.

Spreading Holiday Cheer with “Adopt a Senior”

This holiday season, the St. Augustine community has truly embodied the spirit of giving and faith in action through their Adopt a Senior Christmas initiative. Led by the dedicated St. Augustine Student Council, and with the guidance of Mrs. Bacon and Mrs. Runions, students adopted 23 seniors from Queen Square Terrace, spreading joy and warmth to those in need of a little extra Christmas cheer.

St Augustine Students and Seniors

Each class was thoughtfully assigned a senior to shop for, with students selecting gifts to brighten the holidays for these cherished members of the community. The student council then wrapped the items into festive, beautifully decorated baskets before delivering them with smiles and Christmas spirit.

St Augustine Students and Seniors

This initiative would not have been possible without the generosity of St. Augustine families, who contributed items to help create these meaningful gifts. Their kindness and support ensured that the seniors at Queen Square Terrace felt remembered and celebrated during this special time of year.

Through this initiative, St. Augustine demonstrated what it means to live their faith through action—bringing hope, joy, and compassion to others in their community.
