Waterloo Catholic District School Board Trustees represent citizens of Waterloo Region. The Board remains committed to providing a quality, inclusive, faith-based education with a goal of providing all students the opportunity to succeed and belong.
The Board of Trustees of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board does not support statements made by Trustee Wendy Ashby in social media posts.
The Board is aware of concerns raised by community members regarding the contents of the posts by Trustee Ashby and is doing its due diligence in ensuring that those concerns are heard. Whenever there are allegations of a breach in the code of conduct, the Board follows up with a review into those allegations.
At a Board meeting held on Monday April 24, 2023, a number of individuals were disruptive, causing the meeting to be briefly recessed. Waterloo Regional Police were called to ensure the safety of all those in attendance. No arrests were made, and no further police action was required. The meeting resumed and Trustees received the presentation from the meeting’s sole registered delegation.
The Board will continue to be accountable and accessible to our community, but we will not tolerate hate of any kind or disrespectful behaviour that is disruptive to public meetings.
There will be no further comment from the Board of Trustees at this time. Please refer to a separate statement issued by Trustee Ashby.

Conversations about inequality are often uncomfortable. As a Métis woman and in my professional role, I encounter these discussions regularly and part of these discussions is to challenge our existing systems. A great deal of my education and advocacy work is around understanding and furthering diversity, equity and inclusion.
I have decided to remove my Twitter account to ensure that my comments and advocacy will not be taken out of context, in the future.
I remain dedicated to continuing to work with my colleagues and our community to support all students.

Dual Credit programs at WCDSB are ministry-approved programs that allow students, while they are still in secondary school, to take college or apprenticeship courses that count towards both
the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, degree or a Certificate of Apprenticeship.

On Saturday April 1, 2023, 8 WCDSB secondary school students participated in the Skills Ontario Qualifying Competition at Fanshawe College in London.
Students represented the Waterloo Catholic District School Board with tremendous efforts in the following contests: TV & Video Production, Culinary Arts, Carpentry-Individual, and Welding.
WCDSB will see 3 students advance in the Culinary Arts with a silver and bronze place finish, and the awarding of a wild card space. Please join us in congratulating Jordan (St. Benedict), Nathan (St. Benedict) and Isaiah (St. Mary) as they move on to the Provincial Competition in May.

The 2023 Skills Ontario Competition will take place as an in-person event for the first time since 2019, on May 1-3, 2023 at the Toronto Congress Centre.

WCDSB will be represented at the Provincial Competition by 40 students from all 5 Secondary Schools in grades 10-12.

(Waterloo, ON) April 4, 2023 – The medals and pins being handed out at the upcoming 2023 Skills Ontario Competition are inspired by youth for youth.
After hundreds of entries into the Skills Ontario Pin & Medal Design Contest, Skills Ontario is pleased to announce two designs have been chosen.
This year, the winning pin design was created by second year student, Jian Bin Su of Centennial College.
The winning medal design was inspired by Grade 11 student, Reese Lombardi of Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board.
Started in 1992, the Skills Ontario Pin & Medal Design Contest takes place each September and encourage custom design submissions from youth who attend high school (grades 9-12) or college/training delivery agent in Ontario.
Students are invited to submit their custom designs by the deadline for a chance build their resume, win prize money and be recognized as the provincial winner. Winning designs for both pin and medal are immortalized in metal and reproduced by the thousands for the Skills Ontario Competition.
Both designs by Bin Su and Lombardi are the inspiration for the 2023 pin and medals which will be handed out during the 2023 Skills Ontario Competition on May 1 –
May 2 at the Toronto Congress Centre.
The public will be able to see the winning pin design up close during the event, while the medals will be handed out to the finalists at the Skills Ontario Competition during a closing ceremony on the morning of May 3.

Started in 1989, the Skills Ontario Competition is the largest skilled trades and technology event in Canada, featuring over 75 contests for elementary, secondary, post-secondary students and apprentices in Ontario. As we slowly enter into Spring — and we begin to witness the Earth being reborn again — we are also entering into the holiest days of our Catholic Church year.
The past winter has been a long one as we have methodically moved forward out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Those challenges make the symbolism of Holy Week and the commemoration of the death and Resurrection of Jesus all the more poignant.
For that reason, I wanted to share a brief reflection and a reminder that, as St. John Paul II once said, we are a Resurrection people and Alleluia is our song.
The only path to the joy of Easter Sunday is through our annual Lenten journey and the experience of the sorrow and loss of the crucifixion on Good Friday.
So, as a people of hope we embrace and celebrate our annual journey to the Resurrection.
I want to especially thank all who learn and work and serve our schools for your patience, dedication, resilience, and solidarity as our 2022-23 school year has unfolded.
As we witness the wondrous beauty of nature stirred into new life, we look forward to the conclusion of this school year with hope and joy.
