On November 27, 2023, the Board of Trustees of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board elected Cambridge/North Dumfries Robert Sikora as Chair of the Board and Waterloo/Wellesley/Woolwich Trustee Linda Cuff as Vice-Chair of the Board.

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board with a total student population of 38,000, provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12) across the Waterloo Region.

​ Applications for the position of Supply Instructors – Igbo Language are being accepted by the International Languages Program – Elementary for St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres.

IL Instructors support the language learning of each student in a physical environment.  They have responsibility related to the program, the students, the parents, the community, and the classroom.  The instructors must understand the concepts of equity and inclusiveness in the Canadian context.

General Description of Duties:

  1. Supporting student learning, and supporting program success in the physical environment
  2. Foster a safe and secure physical classroom environment
  3. Identify what students are expected to know and be able to do (learning goals) and what it looks like when they are successful (success criteria), and share this information effectively with students and parents
  4. Interact effectively with students using different technological tools in an organized and systematic way
  5. Explore new solutions, e-tools, platforms to engage all students in a real life, task based, relevant to student experience learning of the second language
  6. Be flexible and innovative while planning, conducting, and managing a physical classroom
  7. Develop long and short-term lesson plans to meet the needs and program objectives in physical classroom environment
  8. Using the target language as the language of instruction and communication whenever possible
  9. Participating in staff meetings, educational conferences, instructor training workshops, and extracurricular cultural events and activities
  10. Collaborate with the school community, parents, and other teachers to improve teaching methods, explore new and safe platforms and improve student wellbeing
  11. Utilize Google Meet when needed to deliver the teaching of reading story/literature, demonstration/writing, reading aloud and conversation with the students

Requirements:

  1. Fluent in oral and written Igbo language
  2. Preference will be given to those candidates with professional experience teaching languages & working with children
  3. Passionate about different cultures and the power of learning languages
  4. Ability to deliver programs in a fun and dynamic approach in a physical environment
  5. Professional proficiency in English
  6. Degree in child development, elementary education, foreign language education preferred
  7. Ability to work successfully with colleagues on a team
  8. Must be eligible to work in Canada and be able to attend in person

Location and Hours:

  • Saturdays, 9:00 am – 11:30am – St John Campus, 99 Strange St, Kitchener (September to June school year)

Salary Range:           

  • $27.47 per hour (plus vacation pay)
